“Small Honey Jar”: Exploring the Process

“Small Honey Jar” 5 x 4 oil on panel

Today's painting is a small "Honey Jar," a 5 x 4 oil on panel study. I'm pleased with how the expressiveness of the marks and brushstrokes came through in this piece. Though the composition is simple, it provided an opportunity to delve into some of the more modern or contemporary approaches to representational painting that I've been experimenting with lately.

There's an intentional air of "Non Finito" to this piece—a choice made to invite the viewer to experience the process behind the image. I want the work to feel more man-made, more connected to the hand that created it, compared to some of my previous efforts. It was a satisfying exploration, and I'm looking forward to continuing down this path.
