Embracing the Challenge: High Key Cups Study

Alla Prima "High Key Cups Study" Timothy W. Jahn

Today's premier coup painting is a 5 x 4 inch oil on panel titled "High Key Cups." This piece features a high key arrangement of white porcelain cups, an exercise I haven't tackled in quite some time. High key paintings are a fantastic challenge because the compressed value range forces you to concentrate on both observation and palette control to accurately represent shapes and value relationships.

I placed the cups on a white cloth to really test my value control. It was a rewarding challenge to see how much can be conveyed with so little difference in value.

I'm excited to share this piece with you. Thank you for joining me on this artistic journey. Your support and engagement mean a great deal to me.
