C-Clamp Study: Celebrating a Well-Traveled Tool
Today's painting, a 5 x 4 inch oil on panel titled "C-Clamp Study," holds a special place in my heart. This particular tool has traveled with me around the world since 1999, holding my palette steady in the five countries where I’ve had the privilege to paint. I have a deep appreciation for practical tools that also possess an aesthetic appeal, and this C-Clamp is no exception.
In this alla prima study, I focused on pushing the chroma of the colors and incorporating slightly more expressive marks. The accents of higher chroma and flourishes of diffused paint helped transform a simple, utilitarian object into an engaging and interesting picture. I found a balance between capturing the essence of the tool and exploring the artistic possibilities it presents.
Sharing some images of the process for your enjoyment. Each painting in this series allows me to delve deeper into both my personal history and artistic practice. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
