Avocado Study: Embracing the Art of Brushwork

Alla Prima Avocado Study Timothy W. Jahn

Today, I spent some quality time in the studio with an avocado as my muse. This 5 x 7 oil on panel piece was an exercise in alla prima painting, a technique I've grown to appreciate for its spontaneity and challenge.

The goal was simple yet profound: to improve my brushwork and sharpen my observation skills. By painting wet-on-wet and working quickly, I aimed to capture the essence of the avocado with deliberate and expressive strokes. The process was both meditative and invigorating, pushing me to stay present and focused on each detail.

Sharing this study with you all brings me great joy. It's a reminder of the beauty in everyday objects and the endless opportunities for growth in our artistic journeys. Thank you for being a part of this exploration.
