Finding Inspiration: A Study of Bottles

Alla Prima "A Study of Bottles" Timothy W. Jahn

Today's painting, a 5 x 4 inch oil on panel study of bottles, was a delightful challenge. Working on a toned board, I started with a rough drawing and began to develop the small bottle set against the darkest one in the composition. I aimed to use this contrast to push the focal point and bring the painting to life.

Throughout the process, I found myself reflecting on the first time I read Mary Beth McKenzie's book "A Painterly Approach" nearly 28 years ago. The impact of her teachings has been incredibly lasting, guiding me through many artistic endeavors.

In this piece, I experimented with a bit more impasto in my strokes, particularly in the highlights. It was exciting to notice that the subtle changes in color are becoming easier to perceive. While I may not have perfectly incorporated these subtleties, I believe the seed for further growth has been planted.

Thank you for joining me on this artistic journey. Your support and engagement mean a great deal to me.
