Exploring Romanticism: Perfume Bottle and Satin Cloth Study

Alla Prima "Perfume Bottle and Satin Cloth Study" Timothy W. Jahn

Today's painting, a 5 x 4 inch oil on panel titled "Perfume Bottle and Satin Cloth," was an intriguing exploration of form and light. This premier coup, alla prima painting presented a real challenge, especially with the reflective glass surface of the perfume bottle.

As I worked, I drew inspiration from Romanticism and its bold, passionate brushwork. Observing the bottle closely, I considered breaking the forms down into individual stages of paint. This broken feeling of form felt more natural to me and closer to the sensation I wanted to express.

Each of these paintings allows me to delve deeper into my personal feelings towards the forms and how I react to the light illuminating them. It's a stark contrast to working from photographs, and while it’s very challenging, I am thoroughly enjoying this series of explorations.

Thank you for following along on this artistic journey. Your support and engagement mean the world to me.
