Revisiting Bold Strokes: Cup Study
Today's painting, a study of a cup, was an exploration of bolder marks and more visible brush strokes. I aimed to leave the out-of-focus areas a bit bolder than I typically do, embracing a surface variation that was common in my work many years ago. Over time, I had abandoned this variation of marks and dissidence in favor of an overall cleanliness.
Lately, I've found that a super clean finish feels unsatisfactory to my experience of reality. I'm desiring an image that is more clearly man-made, reflecting the authentic process of creation. This painting is a step toward reintroducing those bolder, more expressive elements into my work.
Sharing some close-up images to highlight the details and brushwork of this study. Each painting in this series allows me to reconnect with my artistic roots and evolve my approach. Thank you for joining me on this journey.
