Minimalistic Exploration: “Chanel Blue Study”

“Chanel Blue Study” 5 x 4 oil on panel

Today's painting, a 5 x 4 inch oil on panel titled "Chanel Blue Study," was an interesting exercise in minimalistic color composition. The color palette exists within a very narrow range of blues and grays, with the faintest hints of warm yellow-greens in the text.

I've always had a fondness for Mark Rothko's work, and while my art doesn't fall into minimalism, I've found that compositions that minimize or quiet any ancillary information leave me with a more satisfying viewing experience. The removal of extras in a painting like this allows the texture of the marks to have a more meaningful resonance.

This study was both challenging and rewarding, and I'm excited to share some process images so you can see behind the scenes Each painting in this series is a step forward in my artistic journey, and I'm grateful for your support and engagement along the way.
